Sammlung Merkur

We are a group of German and Austrian entrepreneurs, collecting art. We joint to share experience, to steadily improve our collections and to bring them jointly to exhibitions world-wide. Because we are thinking art brings people together to communicate, share ideas and opinions, to ask and to discover all the time something new. This is a main purpose in life, and it is necessary, especially nowadays. In approximately 30 exhibitions every year, we are showing more than 6.000 masterpieces of fine art. Therefore we are one of the biggest “travelling museums”.

In our portfolio are three main focuses:

Firstly we are collecting old prints from woodcuts and copper engravings by masters like Martin Schongauer, Anton Koberger, Albrecht Dürer, Lukas Cranach and Hans Holbein the Younger, as well as later artists like Rembrandt van Rijn. This collection is steadily under the process of extension.

Secondly we are collecting the masters of the classical modern art, especially lithographs and etchings. The main artists are Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Max Liebermann, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, George Braque, Salvador Dalí, Joan Miro and Marc Chagall.

Thirdly we are collecting paintings by contemporary artists from Middle and Southeast Europe. One focus here is on paintings by Sabrina Schelker and works of the Romanian artist Roxana Florea.

We are glad to introduce our collection of graphics by Albrecht Dürer in Romania and would be more than happy, if the people in Romania would appreciate it as well.

In the name of the collectors of Sammlung Merkur best regards
Thomas Emmerling
